Sirio and its wheels
Sirio and the wheels, main topic of a thesis.

Imagine Sirio as it tackles a rugged path, red sand sliding beneath its wheels: this is where the heart of its mobility comes into play. Sirio’s ‘tires’ are not conventional rubber tires, but airless wheels made of TPU Shore 95, designed to withstand any unexpected event without ever stopping.
Each wheel utilizes the deformability of the material to absorb shocks and vibrations, while simultaneously protecting the complex sensors and delicate internal wiring. Forget about flat tires and downtime: the airless configuration completely eliminates the risk of punctures even when ‘walking’ on uneven soil or sharp debris.
The tread, sculpted with variable-thickness knobs, ensures remarkable grip on both soft sands and smooth rocks: a small engineering masterpiece that pushes Sirio beyond the limits of any surface.
Thanks to the four steerable wheels, Sirio moves like a feline: tight curves, lightning-fast reverses, and surprising agility, perfect for exploring craters and ravines without missing a beat. Made with PA12 through SLS technology and reinforced with carbon fiber, the independent suspensions work in synergy with the wheels, ensuring stability even when the terrain becomes unpredictable. It is this combination of lightness, sturdiness, and innovation that transforms Sirio into an tireless explorer, ready to overcome obstacles and discover new horizons… just like a real rover on Mars, but with an all-Italian heart.
